The Project

Vale da Areia project aims to create a residence of excellence, motivated by its particular location and the generous size of the property in which it is inserted, about 2,6 hectares.

Located in the Algarve, next to the village of Ferragudo, and just 200 meters from the coast, it enjoys a unique landscape marked by the view over of the river Arade.

The Algarve is a tourist region of excellence with a wide range of activities, namely cultural, leisure and sports events, among others. The weather conditions, as well as the security and tranquility that the region offers are other aspects that make it so appealing for residence and tourism.

Ferragudo is one of the most beautiful village landscapes by the sea that can be found all over the Algarve. Bathed by the Arade river, the quiet village of Ferragudo preserves a fruitful geological condition that men knew how to take advantage of.

Embracing the waters of the sea and the river, Ferragudo was born around the 18th century. XIV. Fishermen, who sought sustenance for their families in the sea, settled in this place, building humble huts. However, there are vestiges that attest human presence in Ferragudo during the prehistoric period. Moreover, the river bank was also a target for the Phoenicians and Carthaginians. The Romans also settled camp, dedicating themselves to fishing and the salt industry of the fish. There are several archeological findings next to the Fort S. João do Arade that prove these settlements.


Vale da Areia property, located in the center of the Algarve, is 1,8km from the EN 125 and 9,5km from the A22, which are the main road connecting the region. It is 2km from Parchal/Ferragudo train station, the regional railway line. Faro International Airport is just 64km away, and the Algarve Hospital Center in Portimão is 5 km away.

The proximity of the coast, the beaches, the village of Ferragudo and above all the landscape over the bank of the Arade, give the land, along with its natural beauty, a strong touristic aptitude.

The land is located along the municipal road M530 between Praia Grande and Caneiros Beach, marked by ancient terraces, materialized by stone walls that softened the rugged relief, which testify to the agricultural activity of the past. Over the last years there is an expressive occupation of autochthonous spontaneous species such as aroeiras, olive trees and carob trees that reduce the man´s footprint and gives back a degree of naturally beauty.

The Architectural

The 10 houses planned are concentrated in a set of 2 floors, divided by 3 typologies of 2 rooms and 3 typologies of 3 rooms and 4 typologies of 5 rooms. Access to the houses is guaranteed by a pedestrian path to the ground floor quota and by car access to the lower level.

Each housing is developed on the 2 floors and consist of living room, kitchen, bedroom and a sanitary installation on the lower floor and the remaining rooms with private sanitary facilities and terraces. Each house has on the basement floor parking lot for two cars, technical areas, laundry and storage. All the houses are facing the sea and have an exclusive outdoor garden area ensuring a comfortable level of privacy.

The common swimming pool is located in a valley area, with a more introverted character, protected from the winds and the exterior views, an surrounded by the natural beauty of the land and its surrounding landscape. The existing housing, along with the eira and is surroundings is recovered as a memory to the previous settlements. The eira is located in an elevated area of the land with an extraordinary view over the landscape and marked by the presence of the River Arade bank.

The architectural accuracy and materials of excellence to be used in the buildings and their surroundings reflect the level of quality desired of the whole. The sustainability principles of the buildings and their surrounding spaces will be valued, privileging the reduction of energy consumption, the usage of renewable materials as well as reduction of the ecological footprint, making use of solutions that reinforce the use of renewable energy and reuse of water.
